Italian Industrial Property Code (CPI)

The Italian Industrial Property Code, abbreviated CPI, is the Italian law (Legislative Decree 30 of 10 February 2005) that brings together the rules on trademarks, patents, designs and trade secrets.

For companies using AI, article 98 matters most: confidential information is protected as a trade secret only if the company has protected it with measures reasonably adequate to keep it secret. It follows that protection depends on the rules the company has set itself and can prove.

An example

A chemical company guards the formulas of its additives. If a technician pastes one into a public AI chat, and the company has never set a rule on these tools, it will be harder to argue in court that the formula was protected.
