SOP (standard operating procedure)

An SOP (standard operating procedure) is the written description of how an activity is carried out, step by step, so that anyone in the role performs it the same way and with the same result.

A clear SOP is the condition for automation: an AI agent (a system that chooses on its own the steps to reach a goal) works well only on procedures that are already validated. When an employee finds a better way of working with AI, turning it into an SOP is what makes it an advantage for the company rather than for one person.

An example

In a production plant, a technician uses AI to prepare the end-of-shift report in ten minutes. The manager writes it up as an SOP with its steps and checks, and from the following month every shift prepares it the same way.
