Integrated digital ecosystem

Channels and tools

An integrated digital ecosystem is a set of applications that share accounts, data and functions until they form a single environment for work or life.

Moving from separate applications to an ecosystem changes the value of the product: customers stay because everything is connected, and each extra service strengthens the others. Google with mail, calendar and documents, Apple with devices that recognise each other, and in Asia super-apps such as WeChat are its most complete forms. The flip side is lock-in: leaving is costly, which is one reason why Europe, through the Digital Markets Act, requires large platforms to let users take their data with them.

An example

Mail, calendar and documents that refer to one another: an invitation in the inbox creates the calendar event with the document attached.
