Local SEO is the part of SEO that makes a business with a physical location appear in searches tied to a place: "near me", a city name, a map search.
It concerns shops, restaurants and professional practices, but also industrial companies that serve a territory.
For these searches, search engines first show a box with a map and a few businesses, and choose which ones based on proximity, relevance and reputation. As a result, most of the work happens off the website rather than on it: a complete and up-to-date Google Business Profile, the same name, address and phone number wherever they appear, customer reviews and the replies to them. Geotagging, which attaches the location to photos and videos, also helps the engine tie the business to its area.
An example
A precision machining shop keeps its Google Business Profile accurate on address, opening hours and categories, and posts photos of its jobs with the location attached; someone searching "contract CNC turning" in its area finds it on the map ahead of its competitors.
