Also known asYouCam MakeUp

YouCam Makeup is the augmented reality app (technology that overlays digital images on the reality framed by the camera) for trying make-up on one's own face before buying it.

Perfect Corp., a Taiwanese company, launched it in 2014, and it is among the first apps of its kind to reach the general public: the smartphone camera becomes a mirror showing the lipsticks, foundations and eyeshadows of the brands in its catalogue.

For marketing it is an example of virtual try-on: it reduces doubt before an online purchase, which in cosmetics is the main reason customers give up.

An example

A customer undecided between two lipstick shades tries both on her own face with her smartphone, picks the second and buys it online without going to a store.
