Algorithm governance

Data and infrastructure

Algorithm governance is a company's ability to understand and steer the algorithms of the digital platforms it communicates and sells on.

Every digital channel is made of a medium and an algorithm which, like a film director, decides what content to show, to whom and when. Governing it means knowing its signals and building content and data that the director rewards, turning a black box into an ally. The subject has a public side too: in Europe the Digital Services Act requires large platforms to explain the criteria their recommender systems use to rank content, one piece of the European Digital Identity.

An example

A company studies what a social network's algorithm rewards and reorganises formats and posting times instead of raising the advertising budget.
