Regulation (EU) 2026/1744

Rules, risk and compliance

Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 of 8 July 2026, published in the Official Journal on 24 July and in force since 27 July 2026, amends the timetable of the AI Act, the European regulation on artificial intelligence.

It postpones the obligations on high-risk systems: to 2 December 2027 for those in Annex III, which include recruitment, and to 2 August 2028 for those in Annex I, systems built into already regulated products such as machinery and medical devices. The rest of the AI Act keeps its dates, including Article 50 on transparency, applicable from 2 August 2026. For a company this produces an odd order: liability for what it publishes arrives before the duty to know which systems it uses.
