Data and infrastructure
Data-driven describes an organisation, a decision or a product based on measured evidence rather than on intuition, habit or the opinion of whoever has most authority in the room.
A data-driven culture has three conditions: reliable data accessible to decision-makers, people able to read them, and the habit of changing one's mind when the data require it. The term spread from the late 2000s, together with the profession of data scientist (the specialist who draws knowledge from data), and machine learning multiplied its reach. The opposite risk is the wrong metric: steering by data that do not measure the result, such as vanity metrics, is worse than steering by instinct, because it gives false confidence.

An example
A company stops choosing promotions by the sales director's taste and decides them by comparing, shop by shop, sales in the weeks when they ran with sales in the weeks when they did not.
