Also known asHuman ResourcesHR
HR, short for Human Resources, is the company function that looks after people: hiring, contracts, training, performance assessment, career paths, the design of roles and the internal climate.
In many companies the acronym refers both to the function and to the department that carries it out.
With artificial intelligence its weight grows, because every new tool changes people's tasks even before it changes processes. HR decides which skills are needed, who must be trained and how the organisation chart is redrawn; together with legal and compliance (conformity with the rules) it sets the boundaries within which systems and models operate. It follows that an artificial intelligence project left to the IT department alone tends to stall: without HR, nobody prepares people to use it.
An example
A chemical company introducing an artificial intelligence assistant for customer service asks HR to define who uses it, with what training and how people's tasks change, before the tool goes live.
