A website's structure is the hierarchical organisation of its pages and content: how they are grouped, named and linked to each other.
It decides how people find what they are looking for and how search engines and AI systems understand the site, because internal links say which pages matter and what they are about. The discipline that deals with it is information architecture: the phrase ‘information architect’ comes from the American Richard Saul Wurman (1976), and Louis Rosenfeld and Peter Morville wrote its handbook for the web in 1998.
