Human-centric innovation culture
Process and organisation
A human-centric innovation culture is a way of innovating that starts from the needs of people, customers and staff, and only then chooses the technology.
Tools, however advanced, stay at the service of a human strategy that steers them; the point is to give equal weight to technological innovation and to understanding people. Its roots are in Don Norman's user-centred design (The Design of Everyday Things, 1988) and in design thinking; in Europe it has taken the form of Industry 5.0, through which since 2021 the European Commission has called for an industry that is human-centric, sustainable and resilient, a trait of the European Digital Identity.
An example
Before bringing an AI assistant into customer service, a company observes which requests really frustrate customers and which ones the agents want to hand over.
