Artificial intelligence
An [AI organization chart](/en/blog/ai-organization-chart.html) is the structure of an organisation that builds artificial intelligence into how it sees the market, decides and acts.
In place of the fixed web of roles and reporting lines it puts a flexible structure based on collaboration between human talent and machine intelligence, and redesigns who governs data, decisions and experimentation. Adding an AI box under the IT department is not enough: rigid hierarchies and silos work only where information changes little. Paul Daugherty and H. James Wilson, in Human + Machine (2018), described the new roles emerging between people and machines; Ethan Mollick, in Co-Intelligence (2024), the daily work with AI as a colleague.
An example
A company appoints in each department a person accountable for the AI systems in use, and a committee that decides which ones to test and with what data.
