Artificial intelligence
The GenAI Divide is the gap between organisations that get value from generative AI and those that invest in it with no return.
The phrase was made known in 2025 by the report The GenAI Divide from the NANDA project at MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The cause it identifies is neither model quality nor regulation but an outdated approach: systems that do not learn from use, do not retain user feedback and do not adapt to context, and therefore stay outside critical workflows. In a second sense the phrase refers to the gap between consumers who already use AI as a personal assistant and companies that see it only as an internal tool to cut costs.
An example
A company buys licences for a generative assistant for every employee, but no process changes, and after a year use has stalled at writing emails.
